Concept
The Kyushu University (Ito) Extracurricular Activities Facility II is a facility with various practice rooms and club rooms for club activities at the Kyushu University Ito Campus, including a martial arts practice room, music practice room, and Japanese-style room. Aiming to create an exterior that is appropriate as a base for club activities with a long history and that gives a sense of dignity even from a distance, a sloping roof was adopted, and the exterior walls were tiled in colors that are reminiscent of Japanese plaster and wall tiles. The multi-purpose practice room building and club room building, which require different floor heights, are each of appropriate volume, while a slope is used to eliminate the difference in height to create a rational plan. In addition, the club rooms, which are generally planned at the edge of the site where they are often out of sight, are placed in front of the building to achieve a configuration that allows mutual supervision. The kendo and judo halls are constructed with PC beams to eliminate interior pillars and provide a large space for two match halls, respectively. The central martial arts hall, which is used as a space for practice and preparation, is flooded with natural light from the top and can be used as an integral part of the judo and kendo halls.
