Concept
The Omuta Tourist Information Plaza was planned to be located directly connected to the station concourse in order to strengthen the dissemination of tourist information at the new Shin-Omuta Station on the Kyushu Shinkansen Line, which will be open two years after the full opening of the line. The exterior of the plaza is made of openwork bricks to control light and create a bright interior space. It is also reminiscent of the many modernization heritages of Omuta, a coal-mining town that supported the modernization of Japan. Inside, visitors will be greeted by Omuta's symbolic "orochiyama" (a float used in summer festivals). Around it, the museum introduces tourist attractions, festivals, and specialties of the municipality, and sells specialty products.
