Konan Library

Concept

The plan was designed with an emphasis on human scale, with all visitor-use areas on the ground floor, taking into consideration the existing streetscape of the old Tokaido Highway, the surrounding elementary schools and shrines, and the existing greenery on the site. The roof is designed in a rhythmic configuration that does not deviate from the scale of the surrounding streetscape, so that residents will feel a sense of familiarity with the building. It is also hoped that the activities inside the library will overflow out to passersby, making it a symbol of the community.
