Otsu City Wani Library

Concept

As Shiga-cho has seven railway stations of the Kosei Line running from the north to the south between the Lake Biwa in the east and Hira mountains in the west, Shiga-cho Town Library has been made to be an architecture with its own identity. Lucid stoneware tiles which reflect a clear image of white sand and green pines and copper roofs which withstand severe weather in nature and become acclimated with the region as time goes by are used in order to create a beautiful, sturdy and useful building with its own identity that harmonize with the landscape. Gentle light from the central dome and circular stained glasses on the walls enrich the color of the space for people not only to borrow and return books but also to encounter a book that enables them to touch the spirit of its author.
