Concept
This is a house with a practice stage for Japanese traditional musical, Noh. This house, which is totally built of wood, is in a quiet residence area; therefore, including windows and walls, it is perfectly soundproofed in order not to bother the neighborhood by practice activities. The stage made of hinoki, Japanese cypress, is designed just the same as a regular stage for real Noh play, and in order to get beautiful sound effect for the stage, a large vacant space is kept underneath the floor. The next room to the stage room could be open for about 100 audiences so that it is used not only for practices but also for real shows. The lighting technology and plan are carefully designed to avoid shades of actors as much as possible. A pine tree of a black-and-white painting create good tension on the stage. This is a work completed with concentrated techniques of craftsmen.
