Concept
The owner is a busy man, doing business in Tokyo and other countries. He had lived in a western style house, but wanted to live Japanese style, for true relaxation. His old house where he spent his early years with his family was going to be broken down, and decided to recreate some of the features in the new house. We used as much wood from the old house as possible, with elaborate measuring and planning. By this, we were able to inherit the old beauty into a new space. To bring out the texture of the old material, we coated the new ones with natural coating (persimmon tannin) to make it look aged and used clay walls finished with diatomite, which are harmless to the human body.
