Concept
The Toshin Forest Office is a wooden building constructed in 1967. As a result of the seismic diagnosis conducted in 2008, it was found necessary to take measures such as renovation, etc. Therefore, a large-scale renovation (seismic renovation and accompanying interior/exterior and electrical/mechanical facility renovation) was conducted to improve the safety of visitors and employees using the facility, as well as to improve the working environment.
The interior finishing materials include wood flooring, paneling on the walls, and wooden louvers, which is in line with the concept of wood in buildings recommended by the government.
The seismic retrofit was based on the following three policies
(1) Increase the number of earthquake-resistant walls by using bracing and structural plywood. Each joint is reinforced with metal hardware.
(2) Rigid floor specifications using structural plywood to increase the floor rigidity of the second floor and roof to transmit horizontal forces.
(3) Reinforcement will be provided by installing a reinforced concrete foundation along with the existing foundation, since the base portion is unreinforced while the rising portion of the fabric foundation is reinforced with steel bars.
