Sunset Square View Rest House

Concept

This rest house provides a comfortable place to rest at the Sunset Plaza in the National Okinawa Memorial Park (Ocean Expo Area), which is a driving force for tourism in Okinawa. The plaza can be used in an integrated manner from the Tropical Dream Center, thereby revitalizing and improving its attractiveness. In order to reduce the burden caused by the height difference and to improve the scenic appeal, an observation bridge and an observation elevator will be installed and integrated with the rest house to create a sense of physical unity. At the same time, we carefully connected time and space in consideration of the landscape and cultural background to enhance the overall value of the facility and the appeal of Ocean Expo Park. Based on the concept of “purification of scenery” as the way of viewing the scenery from inside the building, we planned to make the objects seem more pure by effectively arranging the objects to be shown in the space cut off by the floor and ceiling. The glass on the west side is sloped at an angle of about 15 degrees to avoid glare from the sun setting over the horizon when people walk back to the rest house.
