Concept
This office is located in the Osaka Hokusetsu Cemetery, which was developed in the mountains about 7 km north of Senri New Town as a project related to the Senri New Town development. It was planned to be reconstructed due to its deterioration over time, non-compliance with earthquake resistance standards, and barrier-free accessibility. The office is equipped with an office space for the overall management of the cemetery, a reception area for visitors to the cemetery, a space for resting and waiting for buses, and a multipurpose room for holding memorial services and other events. The building has a circular plan with a dome-shaped roof, which is symbolic of the cemetery's entrance and visible from the road, but also blends in with the surrounding lush green mountain landscape. The large roof with deep eaves gives visitors a sense of comfort, and in combination with the interior design that uses a lot of wood, creates a calm space inside. In addition, aluminum-wood composite sashes, Low-E double-glazing, and a sheathed roof improve thermal insulation performance and reduce environmental impact, while the roofing material is a durable titanium-zinc alloy and the exposed metalwork is treated with zinc phosphate to make the facility as maintenance-free as possible.
