Concept

The site was located in a cedar forest, which is an element of the Koishiwara Village landscape. Therefore, we minimized the development of the sloping site and placed the building with the cedar trees as much as possible, and considered the form and color of the building to blend in with the cedar grove by floating the building with long pillars in the air. The roof has a symbolic form with a ring at the top of a square tile roof with low eaves that gives the building a minka-like scale and rich volume, and a glass ring for light that resembles a spinning wheel. The building is also designed to look like a traditional Japanese lantern "andon".
